In Calvados, the employees of the Femaag Packing company received a nice Christmas present from their boss. A salary increase? Impossible, salary increases have been frozen for a few years within the company.
To please his ten employees, François Gosset, founder of this company located near Pont-l’Evêque and specialized in packaging machines, chose to offer them a car just before Christmas, as reported by our colleagues from Sweet FM.
A Peugeot e-208 for everyone
But it’s not just any car: a Peugeot e-208, the lion brand’s flagship electric model. To our colleagues, he explains: “As general salary increases are frozen for a few years, this is a quid pro quo. The idea of giving everyone a car paid for by the company has gained ground. A car to come to work, some have five kilometers , others more like fifty. But also for personal use. As long as they use it as much as possible.”
If he made this choice, it is because the boss wants to push his teams to drive more cleanly: “I have been driving an electric car from a well-known American brand for six years. For four or five years, I have been trying to find a way to encourage my team to drive cleaner.”
For employees, there is still a small financial contribution. Indeed, with an electric vehicle, the best thing is to be able to recharge your car when you are at the office. Only one terminal was available in the company so far.
“I feel like I’m doing something good”
Thus, employees will have to pay €30 per month in order to contribute to insurance, maintenance and electricity costs. Five new charging stations will be installed in the company car park.
If the vehicle is offered to the employee, there is no question of keeping it in the event of departure from the company: “They find it normal”, comments François Gosset. What appeals to them more is the unexpected initiative of their boss: “When I told them the news, some employees still wondered where the trap was! But there’s no trap! I feel like I’m doing something good, I’m happy to do them pleasure.”
