The tone rose at the end of the traditional Miss France press conference. Friday afternoon in Paris, Sylvie Tellier and Alexia Laroche Joubert let their strong disagreements be heard.
The press conference had however started in a good mood… It must be said that the setting was colorful and sweet, on the first floor of the Ladurée lounge on the Champs-Elysées. Then the tensions eclipsed the macaroons. This Friday, November 18, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, Sylvie Tellier, Cindy Fabre and Jean-Pierre Foucault had made an appointment with journalists to present the next election of Miss France 2023, which will be held on December 17 in Châteauroux.
After the speeches of Cindy Fabre and Diane Leyre (Miss France 2022), then Jean-Pierre Foucault and Frederic Gilbert (the artistic producer of the election), a last expected duo took place: Sylvie Tellier and Alexia Laroche-Joubert . Both also pose with a smile for a few photos, before being directly questioned about their alleged disagreement. “I have my 9 mm under the table”, jokes first the one who has announced his departure from the general management of Miss France at the end of August, after 17 years on the committee. “No, we’re not angry.”
For her part, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, who took the presidency of the Miss France society a year ago, flatters her predecessor who knew how to surround herself with a “fantastic team” over the years. “Frankly, I’m super happy to work with her,” says the producer. But when the questions come on the new rules for entering the competitionthe smiles twitch on the side of Sylvie Tellier.
Married candidates and/or mothers can now apply, tattoos are allowed and there is no longer an age limit. The new boss of the Misses defends this openness and readily acknowledges her disagreement with Sylvie Tellier, who maintains her reservations about the candidate mothers: “I am a mother of three children and I know the sacrifices I have made, and yet I I am fundamentally a feminist and I am convinced that a woman can do whatever she wants in life (…). The planning of a Miss France, the solicitations, the term Miss which means Mademoiselle… For me, all that is not compatible with the status of a married woman with children. But it is very personal and in the end, it is the French who choose.
“Excuse me if I offended you”
A few minutes later, the tone rises, no longer on the evolution of the competition, but when Alexia Laroche-Joubert affirms that Sylvie Tellier has never taken part in the artistic production of the election. “I was the general manager of the company so I worked on the show, for 17 years. Sorry, but I can’t let you say that, ”defends Sylvie Tellier. “But you weren’t working on the production of the show!”, Launches Alexia Laroche-Joubert. The producer Frederic Gilbert, from the back of the room, tries to temper: “We all worked together”. Even the jokes of Jean-Pierre Foucault, seated at the back of the living room, failed to lighten the mood.
Facing a Sylvie Tellier irritated, Alexia Laroche-Joubert wastes no time in apologizing: “Excuse me if I upset you”. To which his interlocutor responds dryly: “Yes, you upset me. At one point, I have a lot of consideration, but you also have to have consideration for the work that has been done for 17 years. Thanks.”
A few last questions were asked before the press attachés closed this press conference, which took a funny turn. The journalists themselves, do not linger, it is because they have a juicy paper to write. Provided that relations relax between the two bosses, who will meet again on Monday, for the traditional preparatory trip to Guadeloupe, with the thirty candidates in the running for the election of Miss France 2023.
