The big maneuvers continue at Racing. Whereas Morgan Sanson and Eduard Sobol discovered this Tuesday morning their new environment at La MeinauLudovic Ajorque, he was heading towards Mainz, as revealed by the German site fussballtransfers.com.
7 million euros for Racing
The news has been confirmed by Racing, which will pocket 7 million euros (bonus included) for its Reunion striker, if he passes the medical examination without incident this Tuesday evening, to redeem his year and a half of contract (June 2024).
Arrived in Alsace in the summer of 2018 from Clermont, then in Ligue 2, against 2 million euros, “Ludo” quickly imposed his size in the opposing surfaces and made his sense of goal appreciated. In four and a half seasons and 151 matches in all competitions, he scored 51 goals, including 46 in Ligue 1, and delivered 19 assists.
But this season, his performance had dropped. While the club had granted him a good exit, the proposals already coming from Germany – Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart – had been deemed insufficient. Then an atypical plexus injury sidelined him for five games in September.
A replacement before the end of the month?
In the end, the best director of Racing in the 21st century will have scored only one goal this season, on a penalty in Brest. During the last match, the precious victory in Lyon (1-2) on January 14, he remained on the bench, supporting the thesis of an early departure.
It is now done. In Mainz, currently 14th in the Bundesliga, he will find another ex-Racingman, Anthony Caci, who left free this summer.
It remains to be seen whether Racing will replace its giant with a shaved head before the end of January or whether it will bet on its trio in place, Habib Diallo, Kévin Gameiro and Lebo Mothiba.
