The president of France Télévisions Delphine Ernotte speaks in “Le Figaro” on the future of Salto, a French streaming platform in which she is a co-shareholder alongside TF1 and M6.
Salto, a 100% French streaming platform soon to be stillborn? This is not the opinion of Delphine Ernotte, the CEO of France Télévisions, who grants an interview this Tuesday, November 22 to “”. Asked about the future withdrawal of TF1 and M6 from the platform of which these private groups are co-shareholders in the same way as France Télévisions, the head of the public service is nevertheless confident. “Salto will soon reach one million subscribers, just two years after its launch. He has demonstrated that he has value“, she rejoices.
Delphine Ernotte suggests at the same time that France Télévisions could also withdraw from this streaming service. “Salto has a future, but not with the shareholding as it is today“, sums up the guest of “Figaro”. And to add: “If tomorrow he finds a buyer, I will have no problem leaving our contents there”.
In search of 45 million euros
In the event of the sale of Salto, the withdrawal of France Télévisions from Salto would allow the public audiovisual group to pocket all or part of its stake estimated at 45 million euros, i.e. the exact amount missing to fill its 2023 budget. waiting, Delphine Ernotte announces to “Figaro” the ways to complete a balanced budget: “We will therefore save 15 million on programs, another 15 on our daily living expenses. Finally, the last third will be absorbed by a proactive forecast on our own resources“.
Among the potential buyers of Salto, the name of Canal+ is currently circulating. It would then be a change of mindset for the encrypted group. In 2018, two years before the launch of Salto, Franck Cadoret, the general manager France of Canal +, had mocked the creation of the French platform: “Something aimed at old people but which is for young people, which was free and which becomes chargeable… If they succeed, I’m ready to bring them each a bottle of champagne!“.
